For High School Youth
Inspiring Young Emerging LeadersFor 5 Years, Inspiring Young Emerging Leaders (I-YEL) has trained high school students to produced projects that challenge traditional environmental activism and education. By empowering interns to initiate, coordinate, and implement projects and trips, I-YEL empowers youth to YEL for a more sustainable and just society.

Point Reyes AdventureEach summer, 12- 14 high school youth from I-YEL and other collaborating organizations, spend 5 days and 4 nights immersed in the ecology of Point Reyes National Seashore. Students learn about the natural environment of Point Reyes, learn about resource management, and get hands-on experience working on projects involving science, natural inventories, and population monitoring. Another valuable aspect of the program is the contact participants have with rangers, managers, and environmental professionals. Through this unique opportunity of inquiry and reflection, participants leave with a greater understanding of their environment and who works to protect it.
“I learned that you never really know until you try something if you like it or not.”
“I liked how all the rangers and people we worked with were really nice”
“With our consistently preserving our environment through service and educating others people will no longer have something to enjoy”
“Learned a lot about all the types of marine life in the Tomales Bay and the type of work researchers have to do to collect data.
“I feel happy that I took a week off from worrying about college and other things to relax and learn.”
