Play ball! Bring history to life with this collectible Alcatraz baseball.

At US Penitentiary Alcatraz, baseball was a way to escape the monotony of prison life. Inmates were allowed to play softball in the recreation yard on Saturdays and Sundays. Competition was fierce, and prisoners named their teams after popular clubs of the day, like the Cardinals, Cubs, and Giants. In October 1955, radio jacks were installed in cells, and as a special treat, inmates were given the day off to listen to Game 7 of the World Series.

Did You Know?
