Easily recognizable because of its distinct topknot and head-bobbing gait, this beautiful bird can be found throughout California in woodlands and chaparral. Adapted to living in some suburban areas and large city parks, it's often visible alongside roadways under the cover of brush, where it eats seeds and leaves in small flocks known as "coveys."
