Fog Globe - Redwoods
S-GRW
Regular price $34.95Celebrate nature with an award-winning Redwood Forest Fog Globe.
Our unique, hand-painted globes are inspired by the beauty of Coastal California's old-growth redwood forests and the swirling, life-giving fog they depend on. Each globe is packaged in an attractive gift box, which contains information on the monumental coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens), the planet's tallest tree species. These majestic trees, which can live more than 2,000 years, grow only in a 450-mile swath primarily along the California coast, and survive the region's dry summer months by capturing fog in their needles.
Winner of the 2019 Public Lands Alliance Innovative Product of the Year Award.

The California quail (Callipepla californica) is our state bird. Easily recognizable because of its distinct topknot and head-bobbing gait, this beautiful bird can be found throughout California in woodlands and chaparral. Adapted to living in some suburban areas and large city parks, it's often visible alongside roadways under the cover of brush, where it eats seeds and leaves in small flocks known as "coveys."

The California red-legged frog (Rana draytonii) is our state amphibian. The largest native frog in the western United States, it spends most of its life in streams and ponds and can travel miles in search of water. Unfortunately, threats like invasive species and water pollution have caused a 70% reduction in the California red-legged frog's habitat. This intrepid amphibian is now listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act.

Magnet - Monarch Butterfly
S-CLTT
Regular price $6.95Birds, flowers, and bears, oh my! Showcase your love of the Golden State with magnets from our Wild California Collection.
With its distinctive orange and black markings and amazing annual migration, the monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) is one of the most famous butterfly species in the world. Each fall, millions of monarch butterflies west of the Rocky Mountains migrate to sunny coastal California and Mexico, where they wait out the winter months. You can spot wintering monarchs, clustered together in trees, at sites throughout the Golden Gate National Parks, including the Presidio of San Francisco, Fort Mason, and the Marin Headlands. Once spring returns, the monarchs will return home in search of milkweed plants where they can lay their eggs.
Did You Know?
The North American monarch butterfly is the only insect in the world known to make the same kind of annual, long-distance migration as birds or whales. Sadly, threats like pesticides and climate change are endangering this breathtaking natural phenomenon--in the last twenty years, California's winter monarch population has declined by approximately 90 percent. The National Park Service and partners like the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy and Presidio Trust are working hard to protect this incredible animal.
