Making Thoughtful Choices

We're working to reduce our impact on the planet in our stores and visitor centers: eliminating single use plastics; using recycled materials; reducing our carbon footprint whenever possible.

From design to delivery, our custom product development program offers unique opportunities to put values into action.

California Redwood Forest Fog Globe, designed and produced by the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy.

Smarter Packaging

Our bestselling Fog Globes are a great example of how thoughtful product packaging can extend the utility of disposable goods.

Our Redwood Fog Globe gift box tells the story of California's beloved redwoods, Sequoia sempervirens. It educates buyers about climate change, using interpretive text about how reduced fog (due to global warming) is changing coastal ecosystems.

Its interior packaging, once made from styrofoam, is a now a custom eggshell crate made from recycled paper, custom-designed by our product development team. Less impactful to landfills than styrofoam, it still effectively protects products during shipping, thereby reducing breakage and waste.

Choices like these is what sets us apart. In 2019, the Redwood Fog Globe won the Public Lands Alliance "Innovative Product of the Year" Award.

Producing Locally

We are proud to partner with local vendors to produce a number of our products. In addition to supporting our local economy and enterprising makers in our community, these partnerships help us reduce our carbon footprint by decreasing shipment delivery distances.

In 2024, Parks Conservancy designer and illustrator Charles House developed our glow-in-the-dark Parks After Dark Collection for children. The apparel was screen-printed by San Francisco Legacy Business Babylon Burning (seen at left). The collection won the Public Lands Alliance "Innovative Product of the Year" Award in 2024.
